The End of the Mouth Piece.

Last night we told Connor how the mouth piece (mp) had to go to the mouth piece fairy. I said he was a big boy and that the mp was affecting the way he spoke so people couldn’t understand him. Since he only got the mp at bed time, I said this right before stories and he really didn’t put up much of a fight. I read him Peter Pan and the story he loves about the ocean and he shouted out parts of the stories just the same in the same happy manner. (He loves stories at bedtimes and likes to participate). He had been so addicted to the mp that I thought it would be such an event but at that time – it wasn’t. I was mad at myself that I hadn’t done it sooner. He asked for it one more time when I was leaving but I just repeated how he was a big boy and the mp went to the mp fairy. That was that…….until 5am. Connor woke up crying. I went in there to see a very sad little boy saying “mp is gone, oh no”. I gave him a hug and he kept repeating it. I repeated my line about the mp fairy and my son cried not a loud cry but a hurt cry like he lost his best friend…it was heartbreaking. I hugged him for over an hour while he said mp was gone. I told him that is okay to miss mp and mp missed him...mp was happy and playing with other mps (I used to think my loved things were real as well). I said mp told blankie to take special care of him. He smiled. By the time I left him, he was smiling and laughing and play tickling me. So far, this morning, he is still the happy loving little boy giving daddy a big hug and kiss before work. I hear that this will only take three days and then he will move on…we can only hope.
